From Amazon.com:  For Every Dog An Angel is a light, magical little book that honors the timeless connection between people and their canine companions. Written from the heart after the unexpected loss of her "forever dog" Martha, this charming book will bring comfort to anyone who has ever had to say goodbye to their best four-legged friend.

This book must be something very special.  Even on back order, it is Super Dog's second most popular book of comfort.  Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates has earned over 25 reviews that rate it 4 1/2 stars out of a possible 5!

From one of those reviews:  I had the opportunity to read "Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates". I only had to read a few pages to know that comfort was not far away. I knew that it was okay not to have an explanation for everything and began to let go and to stop analyzing everything. I hope as you read this most touching book that you allow yourself to feel whatever you feel and know that your best friend will never leave your side.

Legacies of Love, A Gentle Guide to Healing from the Loss of Your Animal Loved One, by Teresa L. Wagner, Maxine Musgrave   Recommended by a Super Dog reader who offers the following review:

Legacies of Love by Teresa Wagner is an audio book that I have found to be the best tool for anyone who grieves the loss of a best friend. My own grief has been deep and I have had trouble coming to grips with it and then I heard about this audio book from the different message boards on pet loss sites. I read the reviews on Amazon.com and decided to try it as nothing else helped. I can not say enough about this book.It helped!! It is an amazing tool and the author's compassion and understanding of deep felt grief is comforting and helps us to heal. But it is so much more. This audio book can help so many who are devastated by such a loss.

The Loss of a Pet, Wallace Sife.  Recommended by a Super Dog reader who offers the following review:

The Loss of a Pet, a book by Wallace Sife, has helped me a great deal in dealing with the death of my beloved dog, Miagi (although, I'm told, time is the greatest healer).  There is a chapter on Children and the Death of a Pet.  This book has many excellent ideas in it (the best being a "checklist" of practical suggestions, which I have been referring to continuously).  It is well and concisely written - one can find relevant suggestions quickly and easily. Dr. Wallace Sife is a psychologist and "professional pet bereavement counselor" who wrote this book after the loss of his dog, Edel Meister.

This book includes The Rainbow Bridge Story as well as other stories and poems.

See Super Dog's version of The Rainbow Bridge Story.

Barn Kitty is a true story about a lost kitten who finds a home among caring people and animals. She lives a long and happy life and when she dies, she is missed by all.

When Only The Love Remains brought back powerful memories into my consciousness. This is a book you'll want not only for yourself, but for every pet lover who has faced the loss of a four-legged family member".

  • Providing for pet care in case of your own unexpected absence or death
  • Meaningful ways of memorializing your pet
  • Helping a friend who is hurting from the loss of a pet
Healing the Pain of Pet Loss - Letters in Memoriam  Edited by Kimberly Smith
From the Author:
Healing the Pain of Pet Loss: Letters in Memoriam" contains thirty-eight letters from men, women, and children who have lost their beloved animal companions. These stories are quite intense and laden with profound narratives and emotions. Some letters include accounts of: deathbed vigils; friends and families reactions (some good, some not-so-good); feelings of guilt; suicidal thoughts; religious viewpoints; and how they coped, or are having trouble coping. The circumstances of loss are extensive and varied; some include disappearance, death, forced separation, and natural disaster.   "Healing the Pain of Pet Loss: Letters in Memoriam" is a unique book - a type of "portable support-group" for anyone who may lack supporters, suffer feelings of grieving alone, or who simply seek a bit more understanding.
