DOG TRAINING CLASSES:

THE CRUEL HOAX

dog owners in sacramento and roseville, california

Enrolling in group dog training classes is the slowest and least effective way to train your dog. Don't say you weren't told.

If you want your dog to behave at your home, you need to train your dog at your home.

Classes often make aggression worse. .......................................................................Get informed and don't risk harming your dog!

Most dog owners who enroll in group classes do not complete the classes because the classes do virtually nothing for problems at the home and the people get VIRTUALLY NO RESULTS.

Think things through!

You don't need to:

Throw away money on group classes,

Waste your time with ineffective food training,

Put your dog in harm's way,

Make behavior problems even worse,

Get rid of your dog.

ALMOST ANYONE CAN CALL THEMSELF A DOG TRAINER.

Usually Food-Bribery dog trainers are the first ones to tell you to destroy your dog when the treat training does not work, or later on when your dog turns aggressive.

Classes are almost always a waste of money and totally ineffective for solving problems at the home.

Dog bites in Sacramento and Roseville.child dog bites

Will you be able to stop a dog fight if a dog attacks your dog in a dog training class?

It is not fair to small dogs or puppies to intentionally put them in harm's way. Ask any veterinarian about dogs opened-up by other dogs. Don't think it doesn't happen all the time.

Small dogs are often picked up by Owls. So why would you want to risk it with German Shepherds, Pit Bulls, Rottweilers, Chow Chows and Akitas? Believe it or not, some people have dogs that would kill your small dog in a heartbeat.

If your dog gets attacked one time in an obedience class he will probably hate dogs forever.

Some dogs develop behavior problems at the home as a result of the stress and fear caused by group dog training classes.

How many dogs will be euthanized that were aggressive and could have been trained?

We can train dogs when other dog trainers, veterinarians and behaviorists recommend that a dog should be destroyed because it has been labeled aggressive.

Often the dog is fearful-aggressive from an incident in a dog training class or at the dog parks in Sacramento, Roseville, San Francisco, Elk Grove and San Jose, California.

We feel for dog owners who are faced with having their 'friend' killed because he is bad and are sick of hearing all the stories about people euthanizing their dogs--THIS IS WHY WE MIGHT SOUND A LITTLE ADAMANT. We are trying to save your dog's life. Many people have their dogs euthanized after taking dog training classes and using treats and clickers for training because they think their dog can't be trained.

Does your dog hate other dogs and want to hurt one?

If your dog hates dogs and turns into Cujo when he sees other dogs, imagine how bad he will be after lunging at other dogs over and over in class.

Some dogs just don't have the genetic markers to safely socialize with other dogs and people and their owners risks their dog killing the one belonging to the lady standing next to them at the dog training class.

Our experience is: If your dog hates other dogs, taking him to class will make him hate other dogs even more.

Many well-intentioned people wrongly enroll in an obedience class when their particular dog does not have the genetic markers that allow it to get along with other dogs past puppyhood. Veterinarians and others who recommend group classes for all dogs are making a huge mistake.

Sacramento Dog Obedience Classes & Puppy Classes Have It Dead Wrong

Training your dog at the park in classes does virtually nothing to correct problems that occur at the home, like excessive barking, chewing, housetraining issues, bolting out the front door, not coming when called and stealing things and destroying them.

If you want your dog to be well-trained at your home, you need to train your dog at your home. There is very little transference from walking around in circles at the park and your dog being good at your home.

The truth is most peoples' dogs don't even obey them at home with no distractions present after taking group dog training classes. We get dogs to behave at the home first. Most people call dog trainers for problems in the home, not the park.

Puppy and adult obedience classes are non-productive for most every dog and owner.

We can off leash train most any dog in 3 to 5 lessons at your home where YOU and your dog will be most comfortable learning or we can board and train your dog for you.

1. Get the dog under control

Many people feel that it is cruel not to train dogs and have to use leashes and collars to get them to behave.

a. Pinch-Prong Collars

We recommend you Off-Leash train your dog so you don't have to use any collars.

Pinch collars have saved many dogs lives and only should be used, if at all, for a short time just while training. They are now very popular with women, kids, seniors and people with injuries or disabilities. It only takes about 20%, or less, energy to get the same or more response from a dog wearing one versus a flat buckle collar.

Many small people with dogs bigger and stronger than them have gotten their dog trained and did not have to euthanize it because the owner kept an open mind and tried a pinch collar.

Dogs nip eachother at the neck to correct eachother, not jerk or choke. Often dog owners have their dog on a belt buckle flat collar and jerk and choke their dog a lot. Maybe it would be better to use a pinch collar and two times instead of ten and not be so violent with the dog.

Consult a real dog trainer, not some kid at the pet shop or side-liner holding classes in the park or at the SPCA. The pinch collar is a tool. Half of the homes we go to the client already has a pinch collar because they hear at work and from their friends that pinch collars often work good for getting hyper or very strong dogs under control. We recommend not using any collar, but you have to start somewhere. We don't tell people which collar to use, just the ones not to use.

Almost always people who are against pinch collars have never used one. Usually these people are living in an imaginary dream world where they fantasize about getting their dog under control or off-leash obedient with lots of yummy treats from Mommy for their furry human baby.

What is mean is a dog not getting trained and left out-of-control and having to be euthanized. Usually Food-Bribery dog trainers are the first ones to tell you to destroy your dog when the treat training does not work or later on when your dog turns aggressive.

How could anyone be against something that saves many dogs lives?

The pinch collar was developed by a veterinarian as a safe and humane alternative to choke chains. Pinch collars are what you use on small dogs with easily damagable half-round tracheas like Jack Russel Terriers and Dachshunds with really delicate necks. People who say pinch collars are dangerous are wrong--pinch collars are the safest collar. Again, we say it is mean to not train your dog and have to use collars and leashes.

b. Haltis & Gentle Leader Harnesses

A well-intentioned, but stupid idea.

Most dogs don't smile with these.

Don't listen to armchair dog trainers and behaviorists, amateurs and part-time pet shop cookie trainers. These dangerous halters come off and can cause cervical and spinal injuries to dogs if the dog lunges because it turns the head. We feel these are unnecessary for 99.9% of dogs. They have their use however and are excellent for only a very few dogs.

Usually the worse the dog trainer the more they use Gentle Leaders and Haltis.

c. Choke Chains

Using choke chains for dog training is sick. Please call us before you think you need to hurt your dog to train it and maybe cause 1) tracheal and oesophogeal damage, 2) severely sprained necks, 3) transient foreleg paralysis, 4) recurrent laryngeal nerve paralysis, and 5) hind leg ataxia.

We only would recommend a choke chain if the owner needs a collar that is the most sure bet that the dog won't be able to slip out of.

Maybe you need to be honest and ask yourself if you really know what you are doing before you start jerking, choking or getting real physical with your dog. It is not worth maybe permanently hurting your dog. Maybe it would cost less and the dog might not be permanently ruined if you called a professional. If you hit your dog, you have crossed the line and need to seek help for the sake of your poor animal and society.

The adult or child who hits a dog will often end-up hurting people too. Don't say you weren't warned.

2. Remove opportunities for aggression

We feel for the owners of aggressive dogs. We are only one of two dog trainers in the Sacramento Region who accepts and can work with Dog-Aggression and People-Aggression.

The primary component of aggression usually is fear. Making a dog fearful by taking it to classes just does not make sense. More out-of-control incidents makes things worse. One needs to train their dog first at home so it is under control around other dogs.

3. Food-Bribery training will not get most dogs under control

If your dog is very hyper or pushy, most Food-Bribery trainers will tell you that it can't be trained and needs to be euthanized if it shows any aggressiveness. Loving dogs, caring about them and trying to bribe with food is not enough to train most dogs.

Ignore people who tell you that you should get rid of your dog or train using food and call us. . .
