Does Your Dog Run out the Door?

Does your dog think that when you open the door it's the start of a road race?

Look for Golden Opportunities to Teach Your Dog

"When I open the front door, my dog is gone…." If this happens to you, make use of that golden opportunity. Here’s how. After you catch up with your dog, clip the leash to his collar and in a businesslike manner, bring him back to the house. Give him another chance to go through the door, but this time, he’ll hit the end of the leash, as you firmly say, "No!" Then teach him to go on your command. On-the-spot lessons like this can last a lifetime.

The message to the dog owner is:
When your dog makes a mistake, correct him, and motivate him to learn through play.
