Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates

This book must be something very special.  Even on back order, it is Super Dog's second most popular book of comfort.  Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates has earned over 25 reviews that rate it 4 1/2 stars out of a possible 5! From one of those reviews:  I had the opportunity to read "Cold Noses at the Pearly Gates". I only had to read a few pages to know that comfort was not far away. I knew that it was okay not to have an explanation for everything and began to let go and to stop analyzing everything. I hope as you read this most touching book that you allow yourself to feel whatever you feel and know that your best friend will never leave your side.

Legacies of Love, A Gentle Guide to Healing from the Loss of Your Animal Loved One, by Teresa L. Wagner, Maxine Musgrave

The Loss of a Pet, Wallace Sife.  Recommended by a Super Dog reader who offers the following review:

The Loss of a Pet, a book by Wallace Sife, has helped me a great deal in dealing with the death of my beloved dog, Miagi (although, I'm told, time is the greatest healer).  There is a chapter on Children and the Death of a Pet.  This book has many excellent ideas in it (the best being a "checklist" of practical suggestions, which I have been referring to continuously).  It is well and concisely written - one can find relevant suggestions quickly and easily. Dr. Wallace Sife is a psychologist and "professional pet bereavement counselor" who wrote this book after the loss of his dog, Edel Meister.

Barn Kitty is a true story about a lost kitten who finds a home among caring people and animals. She lives a long and happy life and when she dies, she is missed by all.

When Only the Love Remains : The Pain of Pet Loss

Emily Margaret Stuparyk

Dr. Marty Becker, DVM, coauthor of "Chicken Soup for thePet Lover's Soul" says this-"I laughed, I cried, I was uplifted! When Only The Love Remains brought back powerful memories into my consciousness. This is a book you'll want not only for yourself, but for every pet lover who has faced the loss of a four-legged family member."

The Final Farewell—Preparing for and Mouning the Loss of your Pet.

Marty Tousley, RN and Katherine Heuerman 1997 Available through: Our Pals, 3629 North 40th Avenue, Phoenix, AZ 85019, (602) 455-6677, Fax (602) 455-9252.  This book stands head and shoulders above the select pet loss books that address the practical side of pet loss and grieving. Stories and poems have a valuable place on your shelf, but this is the book to read before your pet dies.
