CRATE TRAINING:

Crate training gives your dog their own "bedroom", a place where they can go to be safe and secure. Properly used, a crate will keep your couch and walls from being eaten and is a great aid in housebreaking.

Besides, your puppy, adult dog or senior citizen needs a private place to take a peaceful nap when they need a break from the crazy humans they live with!

The Phoebe Solution

Do you have new dog and he really wants to be with you at night? Just try to put yourself in your new dog's paws and think about how he's feeling. He has just been taken away from the only family he's known and you, who are his only source of social contact, lock him out of the den (your house) at night. Of course he's upset. I personally believe that dogs should sleep with the rest of their pack and that means in the bedroom. He will bond more quickly and closely with you if he's allowed to do so. If you cannot get a crate, you try a method I used for my youngest dog, Phoebe. I cleared out the bottom of my closet, put some bedding in there, left the closet door open but closed it off with a baby gate. She was quite contented in there until she was housebroken.
