CANINE GOOD CITIZEN:

The purpose of the AKC Canine Good Citizen Test is to ensure that our dogs are a respected member of the community because he or she is a SuperDog at home, in public and around other dogs. Some dog-friendly landlords are asking their canine tenants to have a CGC certificate before they move in!

With AKC support and recognition, many groups offer the CGC: kennel, breed specialty, and obedience clubs and schools, 4-H and the Scouts.

Best of all — EVERY — dog is welcome; pedigreed Champions and the pooch next door! All you need is the ability to pass these 10 simple tests:

  1. Accepting a friendly stranger
  2. Sitting politely for petting
  3. Appearance and Grooming
  4. Out for a walk (Walking on a loose leash)
  5. Walking through a crowd
  6. Sit and down on command/staying in place
  7. Coming when called (new exercise)
  8. Reaction to another dog
  9. Reactions to distractions
