We try to be pragmatic and practical. If a dog training method doesn't work or gets slow results, we don't recommend it because if it doesn't for professional dog trainers, it probably won't work at your house either.

"PJ" the Dane-German Shepherd was dog-aggressive until the day he came to live with DaveTheDogTrainer. For about six months, PJ displayed no aggression at all toward people or other dogs. A Granite Bay family then adopted PJ and let him run the house and he turned aggressive again. PJ now lives with a man on a ranch who doesn't seem to have problems with PJ and his other large-breed dogs.

To PJ and most other dogs, it is more about who you are, rather than how much training or conditioning you do.

We really liked PJ here at DogAnswers Ranch because he only barked when someone drove or walked onto the property. To the other dogs, he was almost always dead-last in terms of dominance. Even small dogs would try and mount him, but PJ could really put on a show if someone scared him or he didn't like something about them.

Don't listen to people who tell you that your breed could never be trained off-leash. Dogs form packs which are highly regimented and organized hunting units. Dog packs have a leader who decides when, if, and for how long everything and he makes all the rules. The other dogs do what he says and watch his every move for cues because he directs their every move.

We always feel real safe when Kyser stays with us. If you are a visitor to where Kyser is staying, you don't want to move fast or bend down and try to pet him. His owners swore he was not protection trained, but he would hold people and not let them move. If they moved, he would act like he was going to bite them and he would too. Kyser was not very friendly to DaveTheDogTrainer until Dave spoke German to Kyser. It made Kyser real happy and loving. He then acted like he and Dave were old friends from then on.
